Privacy Policy
Last updated November 2, 2026
RateMyHome ("we", "us") runs a website where people read and write reviews of apartments and houses in the United States and Canada. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your name or display name, your email address and your password. Passwords are stored by our login provider in scrambled (hashed) form, and we can't see them.
- Your reviews: the address, unit, home type, the months you moved in and out, whether you rented or owned, the rent or housing cost you share, your ratings and your written review. Reviews are public, shown with your display name. Your email is never shown.
- Reports: when you report a review, we keep which review it was, the reason and your account.
- Searches: the addresses you type are sent to our map provider to find matching addresses.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the site running and secure.
- Data saved in your browser: we save your login session, your light or dark theme choice and the last address you viewed in your browser's local storage, so the site works the way you left it.
How we use it
- To run your account and show your reviews.
- To check reviews against our guidelines. Review text is sent to an AI service, which checks it and writes the short "Liked" and "Didn't like" points. We don't use it to train AI models.
- To prevent spam and abuse, and to respond to reports and legal requests.
- To show advertising that keeps the site free (see "Advertising" below).
We don't sell your personal information.
Services we use
We share only what each service needs to do its job:
- Supabase: accounts and the database (servers in the United States).
- Vercel: website hosting.
- MapTiler: maps and address search.
- Anthropic: the AI that checks and summarizes reviews.
- Google AdSense, once ads are switched on: advertising.
Advertising and cookies
When ads are on, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized ads at Google Ad Settings or aboutads.info. We'll ask for your consent where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and reviews until you delete them or ask us to. Reports are kept while they're needed to handle them. Server logs are kept for a short time by our hosting provider.
Your rights and choices
- You can delete any of your reviews at any time with "Delete my review".
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or to delete your whole account, by emailing contact@ratemyhome.com.co. We'll reply within 30 days.
- California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete and correct personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don't sell personal information, and we won't treat you differently for using your rights.
- Canadian residents have rights under PIPEDA and provincial laws, including access and correction. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
RateMyHome is not meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords and database rules that limit who can read and change each piece of data. No website is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For important changes, we'll put a notice on the site.
